Pioneer SX-650 Receiver - Tested/Serviced, Working. Walnut Veneer + all LED’s.

Description

This listing is for a Pioneer SX-650 Stereo Receiver in excellent cosmetic and functional condition.
It is rated at
35 WPC at 8 Ω
from 20Hz to 20KHz with THD less than 0.3%.
All lamps have been converted to LED-style for long-life and improved brightness.
The wood-grain look vinyl top/sides were peeling.
It was removed and replaced with real walnut veneer.
The front corner pieces were replaced with solid walnut.
A rubbed oil finish was applied.
A color copy of the Product Sell Sheet and a copy of the Operation Manual will be included.
It has been tested/serviced and is working.
The following outline covers the testing/service done:

All speaker connections have been tested and are working, both right and left channels.
·
The tuner was tested using a simple wire antenna attached.
FM reception is very strong, pulling in stronger stations even without an antenna.
Both AM and FM stations were received as expected across the radio dial.

Tape 1, Tape 2 and Aux inputs were tested and function as expected.
·
Phono input was tested and functions as expected.
·
Headphone jack was tested and is working.
·
All Switches and Potentiometers were flushed with contact cleaner, followed by treatment with the appropriate DeoxIt treatment.
·
The Idle Current was set per service manual guidelines.
·
The faceplate and all knobs were removed, cleaned and hand polished.
·
The stereo and power lamps were replaced with LED style lamps.
·
Radio Dial lamps were replaced with Cool Blue LED lamps for cool operation/longevity.
·
The Signal Strength and Tuning Meters were working at time of testing.
·
Cleaning on all exterior surfaces was done to improve appearance.
·
Any missing top cabinet or bottom plate screws were replaced.
·
All feet were inspected and replaced as needed.
·
A final extended use test was performed to ensure functionality
Please Note:
On the rear panel there are two AC receptacles for plugging in other accessories. One plug is switched (meaning it turns on/off when the main power switch is used), the other is unswitched meaning it supplies power regardless of whether the unit is on or off.
The unswitched receptacle has edge “chips” missing along its edge – likely when someone tried to force a polarized plug into it (see last picture).
Electronics of this era did not use polarized plugs, with one spade being wider than the other.
Both plugs were tested and are fully functional.
These “chips” do not affect the function of the receiver in any way, and are highlighted in the spirit of full disclosure.
